The Croatan Forest is comprised of over 160,000 acres of pine forests and contains approximately 15 miles of equestrian trails which vary in their development and will change with seasonal conditions. Generally the terrain is flat. Markers designate three main trails -Red, Yellow and Blue. The Red trail (also called the Foster Trail) is approximately 4 miles long; the Yellow Trail (Jones Trail) is approximately 3 miles long and the Blue Trail (Wright Trail) is approximately 6 miles long. Trails are marked with round metal disks and also letters and numbers. In addition, trees have been marked with marked with red, yellow and blue paint. These serve as a trail guides but also in case of emergency, a way to identify which section of trail you are on. Be aware that due to seasonal conditions, some areas of these trails may be very wet and boggy. Please see the Trail Map.

Also, because of storm or hurricane damage, trails may be under repair or construction. Visit our Facebook page for updates.

There are over three acres of trailer parking space available at the Equestrian Parking area off Pine Cliff Road which allows easy access to the trail heads. In addition, there are rest room facilities and several picnic tables. Please note there is no running water and riders should plan to provide their own water for their horses.
